"The voice of our original self is often muffled, overwhelmed, even
strangled, by the voices of other people’s expectations."
That explains it!

very true im afraid. then we stifle those voices even further ourselves. any suggestions on how to get the voice back?
This reminds me of an incident when i was 7yrs. I (talk a lot) but i used to speak up for other children or defend them. My aunt called me a laywer/advocate, but i didnt like the way she said it. i think i became self-concous even then. i still do speak up though
That's a challenging one Phine...I believe its standing up for ourselves every day. For me...one day I think I have it down pat and the next day I'm knocked off balance again + speaking your truth..which can tick other's off! The self-conscious thing does leave a tad as we age, for me it did.
I'm not being pedantic Gan but I'm not sure what persecussion is. I couldn't think what word you meant ?
damn benedryl...I meant persecution
Persecussion? Assume you mean persecution?
Most unhappiness in life is caused by expectations. If you don't have any expectations of people then you're never be disappointed. If you can live by that then you will have a very happy life.
